My First 5K

So, at the tender age of 48, I've completed my first ever 5K race. I ran in the Reggae Run and despite the challenging course, I not only finished, but I still had a smile on my face near the end. It really was a lot of fun and I can see why people get hooked on running races.

I finished in 41 minutes. Obviously I'm not going to be breaking any records but I'm tickled that I did that well and that I never broke out of a run even on the hills. I just ran slower - much slower. Walkers could pass me by, but that's fine and dandy. Now I've set my sights on the 10K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning - training begins tomorrow.

Drum Roll Please...

I ran a mile today! OK, it wasn't fast and it certainly wasn't pretty and little old ladies out for a walk were passing me by, but I ran a mile, by all the gods in Olympus!

I'm dead chuffed.

I just checked the comments page and it got an award! OK, it's a Flickr group award and there's no money or anything, but it's the first award I ever got on Flickr. Wheee!

O Happy Day

The most important thing I learned today (following a visit to the endodontist) was that I do not need any root canals at this time. I was certain I would; it's the sort of luck I have with my teeth. Relieved doesn't begin to cover it.

I also learned that Amazon UK has shipped my order for Odd and the Frost Giants, by Neil Gaiman. It's a special edition for World Book Day and cost all of
£1.00, although between the exchange rate and the shipping costs, I won't have saved much money by waiting until it's released in the states. Still, the American edition isn't due out until October and there won't be any special price on that.

Shiny New Toys

I had to go into the office to cover for other people's mistakes on this rainy Sunday, but that was somewhat offset by the new toys I got today. My landlord was kind enough to replace my kitchen faucet with a brand new unit, complete with a sprayer. Yes, this did make me very happy. And I brought home a new pepper mill since the other one self-destructed.

I also purchased a small flat bed scanner today, primarily for scanning recipes from magazines important documents for archiving. The OCR program that came with the scanner works well and I managed to scan six small articles and save them to Google Docs in about an hour. It will go much faster once I'm more familiar with the software.

Then I made Thai food for lunch tomorrow: ground turkey with basil, coconut curried mushrooms and peas, and pickled green bean relish. Doesn't that sound good?
